BVC trailer increases access to public amenities

FINDLAY — Access to amenities has been expanded in the Findlay community thanks to a recent purchase by the Blanchard Valley Center.

Earlier this month, BVC purchased a 25 feet x 14 feet trailer that will house a universal changing table to give people with disabilities and their caregivers access to a clean and private space to address bathroom needs. 

For some, the lack of appropriate facilities makes attending festivals, fairs and other public events difficult. BVC aims to increase accessibility at such events with this purchase. 

“The trailer, ramp and universal changing table costs $32,799,” in total, according to a release, and will be air-conditioned and stocked with sanitizing wipes for use at events such as Flag City BalloonFest and the Hancock County Fair. 

“People with disabilities want to be part of community events, too,” said BVC superintendent Kelli Grisham in the release. “At the end of the day, it’s about preserving an individual’s dignity and inclusion. We place a strong emphasis on inclusion and accessibility and that effort will continue in the future with a laser focus.”
