Washington County Developmental Disabilities Board partners with educational service center

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - The Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities is partnering with the Ohio Valley Educational Service Center.

The Educational Service Center will provide educational resources to school-age children at the Developmental Disabilities Board’s Ewing School during the next school year.

The board was forced to reduce its own service after a levy to fund it failed last November. The board has also had to reduce some of its staff for its early intervention services for children zero to three.

Developmental Disabilities Board Superintendent Tiffany Neill says the partnership with the educational service center is the best solution the board has in its less than ideal circumstances.

“Unfortunately, with the failure of the levy, the difficult decisions had to have been made. However, this is, in my opinion, the best result that we have considering a failed levy,” Neill said.

The board will have another levy before voters in the May primary. Neill saidthat levy is for .95 mills, which she says amounts Washington County residents paying $33.25 per $100,000 of assessed property value.
