We want you! An opportunity to serve Ashtabula County

Hello, Ashtabula County! While the weather is turning colder and by the time you read this we may have even seen our first snowfall, I wanted to take a moment to share some updates and opportunities happening across our county.

This week, I want to highlight an opportunity for you to play an even greater role in shaping the future of Ashtabula County. The Board of Commissioners appoints members to dozens of boards and commissions that serve a wide variety of functions, from emergency preparedness and mental health services, to supporting our children, seniors and more.

These boards are very important to our community. They help generate ideas, allocate funds, and make decisions that directly impact our county’s residents. And we’re always looking for good people, people like you, to step up and serve.

Right now, we have openings on several boards, including the Children Services Board, Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, and the Senior Services Levy Advisory Board, among several others. We also make appointments to others such as the Planning Commission, Airport Authority, County Port Authority, District Library Board, Board of Developmental Disabilities, and the Convention Facilities Authority.

If you’ve ever considered getting involved, now is a great time to do just that. To learn more about the many boards and commissions we appoint to, please visit our website at www.ashtabulacounty.us/commissioners. On the left side of the page, click on “Board Descriptions” for details about each one. If one or two catches your interest, you can complete an application by selecting the “Board and Committee Applications” link on the same page.

Even if a board doesn’t currently have a vacancy, we’ll keep your application on file for a year and contact you if an opportunity arises.

If you have specific questions about these opportunities, or would like to know more about when and where these boards meet, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I also encourage anyone interested to attend a meeting or two beforehand, as all are open to the public. It’s a great way to see the work being done and determine where your skills and interests might fit best with one of these county opportunities.
