Direct support professionals celebrated in event at Moose Lodge

LOGAN — The Direct Support Professionals Appreciation Event was held on Tuesday, Sept. 9 at the Moose Lodge in Logan, hosted by the Hocking County Board of Developmental Disabilities. The group serves 256 people aged three and up, with 53 that help serve the population.

This event comes in conjunction with the state of Ohio’s recent recognition of Direct Support Professional Week, celebrated from Sept. 7–13.

“Direct Support Professionals, or DSPs, are hired to work directly with individuals with disabilities,” explained Angie Boyle, MUI (major unusual incident) and quality assurance manager. “And they might work with them in their home, they might work with them at their job, they might take them to the bank or the store. They do all these wonderful things, but unfortunately they don’t always get the acknowledgement they deserve. So, this is a way that the state and we as a county recognize them”.

The event was themed after a carnival, and contained carnival-themed games and refreshments, as well as a raffle and prizes for all DSPs in attendance.
