The Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD) announced on Tuesday, June 23, that it had been awarded the highest possible status when it came to accreditation for the agency.

The MCBDD received a three-year accreditation award from the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.

This follows a period of time that a review team spent with the MCBDD during May. It was determined by that review team that the agency “deserved the highest possible award for their work” and for the support offered to people and their families.

According to a spokesperson for the agency, all county boards must complete the process of accreditation. However, some may be told to make corrections or only receive a one-year accreditation certificate.

With the MCBDD being awarded a three-year accreditation certificate, it will not have to revisit the accreditation process until May of 2029.

The certificate, shared with 21 News, states “that the Mahoning County Board of Developmental Disabilities demonstrates or exceeds minimum compliance with state accreditation.”

The MCBDD, according to its website, is focused on offering services and programs to people with developmental disabilities.

Some of those services and programs include:

• Assistive technology and remote supports

• Employment services

• Behavior support

• Transportation services
