The Champaign County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) has officially filed the required paperwork with the Champaign County Board of Elections to place a levy on the May 5, 2026 ballot.
As part of the process, CCBDD requested permission from the Champaign County Commissioners’ Office and received certification from the Champaign County Auditor’s Office.
The proposed levy is a 1.5 mill levy with a five-year term.
If approved, the levy would cost approximately $52.50 per year for a home valued at $100,000 in Champaign County, based on an estimated $35 per mill.
Funds generated from the levy would support services for children and adults with developmental disabilities living in Champaign County. Levy dollars help fund local services that assist individuals in living safely and participating in their communities, including health and safety supports, Medicaid Waiver services, Early Intervention services for young children, community engagement opportunities, employment supports, and behavioral support services.
CCBDD is currently funded by three continuing levies previously approved by voters. The 1982 levy was approved at 1 mill and is currently collecting 0.28 mills. The 1996 levy was approved at 3 mills and is currently collecting 1.18 mills. The 2001 levy was approved at 1.5 mills and is currently collecting 0.69 mills.
Over time, the amount collected from these levies has decreased, while service needs and costs have significantly increased. For many years, CCBDD has managed its finances conservatively while maintaining quality services. However, several factors have increased costs while revenue from existing levies has declined.
