DD Chili Fest canceled for 2026

COAL GROVE — Lawrence County Developmental Disabilities announced on Wednesday that their annual Chili Fest and Craft Show will not take place this year.

The event, which typically occurs at Open Door School in Coal Grove during DD Awareness Month, has taken place for decades, regularly draws a large crowd and raises funds for the agency.

“We regret to inform you that the Lawrence County DD will not hold its annual Chili Fest & Craft Show in 2026,” The agency posted on Facebook on Wednesday. “The event requires resources that we are unable to provide this year. We hope to bring the event back in the future, but will need time to rethink how the event is funded and coordinated.”

LCDD faces major spending cuts after a continuing levy was defeated in the November 2025 election. Open Door School was set to close after the end of the 2025-26 school year, but has been granted a one-year extension.

The agency said DD Awareness Month in March will continue as planned, “and individuals served will be featured to share their stories and accomplishments.”
