MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) - The Pioneer Ladies Civitan donated $250 to the Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities.
Civitan Vice President Lynn Stoll appeared at the Ewing School Monday afternoon to present the check to WCBDD superintendent Tiffany Neill.
Civitan’s mission as a global organization is to support and improve the lives of people with developmental disabilities. Stoll said their local club’s support of the developmental disabilities board and Ewing School is a way to carry out that mission in their community.
She said that mission is especially urgent now in light of the recent failure of a levy to support the WCBDD.
“They are a priority for us in the community to help out when we can. We feel like, we’re hoping it will still continue, and we want to support them as much as we can,” Stoll said.
This is the third year in a row the group has contributed a donation to the WCBDD, with the funds to be used at the discretion of teachers at the Ewing School.
The Pioneer Ladies Civitan has also supported the Ewing School in other ways, including helping with a school dance and Easter egg hunt.
The WCBDD is considering program cuts due to the levy failure. They will hold a special meeting.
