TROY — The Miami County Commissioners appointed members to the Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities (MCBDD) and accepted a quote and authorized custodial services for the Miami County Safety Building and the Miami County Courthouse during their Tuesday, Nov. 4 meeting.
The commissioners reappointed Shawn McKinney of Troy to a second term and named Nate Funderburg of Piqua to the MCBDD board. MCBDD Superintendent Brian Green told the commissioners that the new terms for McKinney and Funderburg will serve terms effective from Jan. 1, 2026, to Dec. 31, 2029.
The commissioners accepted a quote and authorized services for custodial services at the Miami County Safety Building and Miami County Courthouse at the request of the Miami County Facilities Department. Both contracts are with Integrity Service Group, West Milton, authorizing their custodial service in accordance with the Cleaning Services Contract/County Performance Standards. The cost for each service is a $45,600 for a two-year contract with the term beginning Jan. 1, 2026. The agreement may be terminated by either party with a 30-day written notice.
Howlett said Integrity Service Group will provide nighttime services.
The commissioners accepted a quote and authorized a project for a fire alarm system replacement at West Central Juvenile Detention Center at the request of the Facilities and Maintenance Department from SecurCom of Minster. The contract authorizes the purchase of a replacement fire alarm system, including new wiring for new devices at West Central Juvenile Detention Center. The total cost is not to exceed $59,532.
Howlett told the commissioners that the quote from SecurCom was “Not the lowest quote, but we wanted to go with a system we use in all our facilities.”
In other action, the commissioners accepted a quote and authorized service for six soil testing (Boring) and sample analysis for the job and family services (JFS) facility at the request of the Miami County Facilities and Maintenance Department. The quote from TTL Engineering, Toledo, will include analysis services to confirm JFS site viability at a cost not to exceed $10,405.
The commissioners awarded and signed an HVAC Preventive Maintenance Agreement for the Miami County Communications Center at the request of the Miami County Facilities and Maintenance Department with Rieck Services, Dayton, as requested by Howlett. The agreement is to provide preventative maintenance and repair services for the HVAC system at the Miami County Communications Center to ensure a long life of the unit that supports the building. The effective date of the contract is for calendar year 2026. The total cost is not to exceed $3,395.
Miami County Commissioner Wade Westfall acknowledged Howlett’s work. “I really want to compliment you…well done.”
The commissioners authorized negotiation of a contract for the Miami County Hobart Center for County Government Building Exterior Improvement Project, as requested by the Miami County Facilities and Maintenance Department, with Meyer Restoration of Piqua. On Sept. 25, by Resolution No. 25-09-1173, bids were received, opened, and deferred until being reviewed to determine if all specifications have been met and a recommendation could be given to the commissioners. Howlett recommended awarding the bid to Meyer Restoration as the most qualified firm for the project.
The commissioners approved a new liquor permit request for JJ’s Lunchbox LLC, Monroe Township, 7031 S. County Road 25A, Tipp City, at the request of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). The commissioners acknowledged the receipt of the notice requesting a new liquor permit for JJ’s Lunchbox in Tipp City. The MCSO did not oppose the request, so there is no need to request a hearing.
The commissioners accepted a quote and authorized a purchase for four skid steer tires at the request of the sanitary engineering department. The commissioners accepted a quote from Triple S Tire Company, Inc., of Cincinnati for the purchase of four new tires for the 2018 Caterpillar Skid Steer Loader, including installation, since the tires are now in need of replacement due to continual use at the Miami County Transfer Station. The cost is not to exceed $3,332.
The commissioners set a public hearing for proposed fee increases for the Miami County Animal Shelter (MCAS) at the request of MCAS Director Rob Craft. The commissioners set the date of the hearing for Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 9:05 a.m. at the Commissioners’ Hearing Room at the Miami County Safety Building, Troy, for a public hearing for the consideration of any proposed increase of fees at the MCAS by the conclusion of a cost-analysis study authorized by the Miami County Commissioners, in accordance with Ohio Revised Code (O.R.C.) Section 955.17.
