Wayne County voters delivered strong support Tuesday for a renewal levy that funds lifelong services for individuals with developmental disabilities.
Voters approved the measure by more than a 2-to-1 margin, according to unofficial results from the Wayne County Board of Elections.
The 1-mill Wayne County Board of Developmental Disabilities levy passed 11,028 to 5,508, according to unofficial results. The measure, requiring a simple majority, will generate an estimated $2,976,112 annually at a rate of $23 per $100,000 of appraised property value, unchanged since 2015 despite recent revaluations. It funds a five-year period starting in 2026, with taxes first due in 2027.
The levy serves 901 local residents from birth through adulthood. Without it, non-mandated services could have been at risk, as state policy requires county boards to fund only waiver-related programs.
The original levy passed 10 years ago; this marks its second renewal.
Total unofficial turnout for the levy was 16,536 votes, with official certification expected later.
