TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Three northwest Ohio agencies are providing funds for families in need of money for food due to SNAP funds being withheld during the federal government shutdown.
The Lucas County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Lucas County Children Services and the Mental Health and Recovery Services Board have pledged nearly $200,000 for their respective clients.
“Food pantries and feeding organizations are already stretched to the limit and doing the best they can,” officials with LCCS said in a release. “While we have pre-emptively referred families to these caring, helpful agencies and organizations, the collective hunger that will result will be too big for them to handle alone. That’s why the three local agencies here today are coming together to work collaboratively to do what we can in the temporary absence of these benefits.”
Employees at the agencies have also started internal food drives to help those effected.
