Sunday through Sept. 13, the Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities (DCBDD) will join organizations across Ohio and the nation in celebrating Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week.
This annual observation shines a spotlight on the dedicated and innovative direct support workforce, the heart and soul of services for people with disabilities, according to a media release from DCBDD.
DSPs a role in ensuring that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities live meaningful, connected and independent lives in their homes and communities, the release explained.
“This week is about celebrating the extraordinary commitment of our DSPs,” said Heidi Hull, DCBDD superintendent. “Their compassion, creativity and dedication are what make our mission possible. They are true difference-makers, not only in the lives of those they directly support, but in the strength and inclusivity of our entire community.”
As part of the nationwide recognition, the DCBDD will hold its annual DSP Appreciation Luncheon on Wednesday.
DSP Recognition Week is part of a national movement led by the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) to elevate the essential role DSPs play. Across the country, thousands of organizations will join together to honor the incredible professionals whose work often goes unseen, but whose impact is deeply felt.
The DCBDD encourages community members to join in thanking DSPs for the work they do.
