The Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities is not a luxury or an extra service — it is essential. For families like mine, it provides support that simply cannot be replaced. Without it, many individuals with developmental disabilities would be isolated and families would be left to navigate overwhelming challenges alone.

My son depends on the services and support provided through the Board of DD. These services are not just helpful — they are life-changing. They provide structure, opportunities and assistance that allow him to grow, learn and participate in the community in ways that would not be possible otherwise. The Board of DD helps ensure that individuals with disabilities are not forgotten or left behind, but instead treated with dignity and given the chance to thrive.

What many people may not realize is that these services don’t just support individuals —, they support entire families. The Board of DD provides guidance, resources, and reassurance that there are people who understand our loved ones’ needs and will advocate for them. It brings stability into a life that can often feel uncertain.

In a perfect world, I would outlive my son, or God would call us home together. But the reality is, none of us know what the future holds. That is one of the hardest truths a parent of a child with disabilities has to live with. Because of the Defiance County Board of DD, I have some peace of mind knowing my son will not be left without support, care and the services he will always need.
