TIFFIN — Students from the Seneca County Opportunity Center, alongside adult participants from Preferred Pathways and theater students at Heidelberg University are collaborating on their 4th annual musical together.
This years show is set to take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 in Pancoast Recital Hall, 263 E. Perry St., Tiffin.
For student director Hannah Lewis, a junior musical theater major, the experience has been both new and rewarding. While she has volunteered to help in previous years, she said this is her first year being involved throughout the entire process: from planning to the performance.
"It's been really fun to come in twice a week, teach some songs, and just see everyone in music class," said Lewis. She continued, saying her involvement has given her a deeper appreciation for the work that goes into a production behind the scenes– as well as the impact it can have on participants.
"I think the arts are a great way to bring people together," she said. "It's a common experience where you all have to work hard and depend on each other, and it is a great way to bring joy into the world."
Program Coordinator Sandy Kimmel said the planning stages began shortly after Thanksgiving, with rehearsals starting in early February. "We've been working on this for at least three full months," she said.
Despite a winter filled with weather-related disruptions, Kimmel says the group stayed on track.
“We’re having a great time, and we hope everyone will come and board the good ship opportunity and have some fun with us,” said Kimmel.
